Our Story

It’s about People,
Community and Africa.

Cashew nuts produced in Africa, inclusively processed in the communities where it is grown and finally roasted in small batches with ingredients from the African soils that produced the same cashews. Local businesses, local products, local trade.

backstory

My name is
Fahad Awadh

Home for many is where the heart is;
I found mine in the heart of the cashew growing communities in Southern Tanzania.

So my journey to change the way cashews are processed, started at home. Today, 60% of the world’s cashew nuts are produced in Africa. 90% of these cashew nuts are sent abroad for processing; this leaves very little value for the farmers.

This is especially true in Tanzania, a country that is one of the largest producers of Cashew in the world.

So my journey to change the way cashews should be processed, started at my home. Today, 60% of the world’s cashew nuts are produced in Africa. 90% of the cashew nuts produced here are sent abroad for processing. This leaves very little value for the farmers in the cashew growing communities. Especially in Tanzania, a country that is the largest producer of Cashew since the 1970s in the world.

Value

Our dream is to create amazing cashew nuts while creating value for farmers in Africa.

We decided to work directly in the rural communities where the cashews are grown. By working directly with the farmers and women’s processing groups; we help them remove the shells from their cashew nuts. We pay them 50 to 70% higher prices and provide them with basic processing machines to make the job easier.

Processing

We work with our cashew nuts from the fruit on the tree all the way to the delicious roasted nuts in the pouch. We are part of the entire intimate process; working closely with farmers and the communities to provide a product that has been cared for throughout.

We roast these delicious cashews on the Spice Island of Zanzibar. Using different spices to infuse the nuts with flavours; Sea Salt from the Indian Ocean and black pepper from the Isle of Pemba to name a few.

We are able to create a unique product that ensures more value remains in Tanzania and in the communities that produce the cashews.
